EARC - Macau

EARC? East Asia Regional Conference? I was real excited to go..

because I really enjoyed meeting people from different countries since my last law conference in Singapore.

Journey from Melaka-Seremban-Singapore is really tiring. Upon arrival, we don't even have the time to shower. Someone joked.."Haih this time no way out d lah! Must use deodorant d lah!" ha ha

Opening ceremony at 8pm..(thinking it would be boring with speeches again!) But this time it's out of the NORM. We started of with video then Singapore workout (or the other way round, I can't remember). That's what we call THINK OUT OF THE BOX/BOXLESS. I get so bored whenever any ceremony follow the sequence ( nothing excites you). I truly enjoy the Singapore workout - I believe everyone do. It was something that's really funny ( includes Chinese, Indian, modern Malay danceeee plus POSE) ha ha ha

Of course there will be speech! And since the theme is WAKE UP AND DREAM! THE TIME IS NOW! Thus, the opening ceremony starts off with ALARM CLOCK. ha ha..

Then we were suppose to go into our small group. Small group. I am kinda excited to meet them but at the same time not too sure what to expect. Will there be JapanesE? Koreans? ha ha

When I first met my group...hmmm..everyone looks around. I look at you, you look at me. Not so sure how to start conversations with one another. Let me tell you the story of each of my group members..I will start of with my group leader.

Queenie is the one of the left =D

My group leader (Queenie Lam). I like her name. Unique right! When she first introduced herself and said she's from Macau, I must say I was surprised by her. In my mind, Macau is really famous for casinos and I never thought of any Christians in that country. Ha ha.. She apologise for bad English but I think it's ok because I can understand what she's saying. It's just that she didn't smile/laugh and I get the idea of unfriendliness there. However, I got to know later on that she's really not used to Singapore's hot weather and it really drains her out. That's why she is not as hyperactive as she is in Macau. (Ok lah. Malaysia weather is about the same with Singapore. That's why can adapt fast. he he)

Surprisingly there's only one Christian fellowship in all the universities in Macau- which is in UNIVERSITY OF MACAU. When I think about it, wah..we have quite a number of CFs in Malaysia but do we really appreciate such privilege?

I always find it's rather funny. During my secondary school days, CF was not recognised in school but we are all out to attend the CF and does all kind of activities. When I went to Form 6, CF is recognised but nobody wants to attend. In fact, some of us tried very hard to keep it survived to pass on. In university, CF is recognised BUT . . .

I learnt this during EARC. CFs started way long back when students in University of Cambridge decided to gather together and started their own CF. It can be considered as Mother CF.

Who would have known it will impact the world right? Because of their effort, today we can meet in EARC together.

Back to Queenie.. One of my group members- AKashi from japan can't really communicate in English. I really admire Queenie for going all the way out..typing whatever we say then GOOGLE TRANSLATE it. At least Akashi won't feel left out totally not knowing what we are discussing. Although Google Translate is not that accurate but at least he could get the rough idea of what we are discussing. Btw, she is quite good in speaking Japanese language and thus, she can click with Akashi well. Thank God for that.

Yeah I guess that's all about Queenie.

For your information, the currency used in Macau is patacca. Now they are facing serious inflation. Please pray for them. With such inflation, it's impossible for post 80 onwards to buy properties there. Besides, as I have mentioned earlier, there's only 1 CF in Macau which is in UNIVERSITY OF MACAU. They might be moving to Hengqin which is part of mainland in China. Please pray for them. If they move, there won't be any CF in Macau University anymore.
